Calibrating the Monitor on the right
It is usually understood that monitor calibration is for Graphic Design professionals only. Not so! Indeed, this is a must for graphic designers, artists, photographers, etc. But anyone who uses their computer to view or manipulate color objects (pictures, graphics or text) would greatly benefit from adjusting their monitors.
Online shoppers are not readily aware of the fact that the colors they think they are seeing on their screen might not be the ones the designer intended or the ones that will be printed in actuality. Amateur photographers, or anywone who post their family albums or vacation photos on the likes of Flicker, Photobucket, etc, need to be on alert also.
If you happen to visit our main site (Lakay Graphics) to view our Haitian T-Shirts or our Creole Greeting Cards, for example, you absolutely have to do this. We have some very bright and colorful designs; anything less than a well calibrated monitor would not do them justice!
Chances are your operating system or your favorite graphic programs already include some type of color management software. There is also a lot of online resources gearing towards achieving this goal. A simple web search on the keywords ‘monitor calibration’ would bring you all the knowledge and tools necesary to adjust the colors of your virtual world.
One of my favorite sites is The Lagom LCD monitor test pages. Do yourself a favor: find a similar site and adjust your monitor(s) accordingly. Your eyes will thank you!
