Today, I want to talk about a very special group of people who have basically shaped me into who I am today. One cannot help loving them, as they seem to project and incite love at the same time. They live to serve, they live to love. Unselfishness is one of the main qualities of this select group of people. Joy is another one. There is an irresitible attraction, a strong magnetic pull on anybody who approaches them. Everything about them feels right.
I also have the deepest love for them. But it’s not that ‘I can’t get you out of my mind’ or I can’t live without you’ kind of love. It’s that pure love that is felt on a much higher level. It encompasses everything that is true and beautiful about us, and about life itself.
This form of love, I used to refer to as Friendship. To me, true friendship has always been the superior type of human relationship. Later on, I learned that the Guru-Disciple relationship is the absolute highest. In fact, there is a lot of this latter in my definition of friendship: Friends are both Teacher and Student to each other.
I have met slighty more than a handful of these wonderful beings in my life. I will just name the top two.
The absolute first is my mother: Mercedes Jacques, who was lovingly known as ‘Dess’ (or Dès). I remember when I told my good friend Astrel Suréna about her. He exclamed: “Man, she is the real deal!”. Indeed she was, as she would do anything, for anybody, anytime! I have yet to reach this level of service!
The second is my friend Odnell David. He was my superior when I worked at the Telecommunications of Haiti (TELECO) in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. This is the sweetest and most righteous man I have ever met. This is the kind who relentlessly works toward the highest in everything they do. I tip my hat to you, Dody!
I meet one such person every five to ten years. The most recent one came to my life, last month. It is a young female co-worker of mine. She is beautiful on every level. She is lovable and loving. Now, don’t get me wrong, she is still human; with all the limitations associated with this plane of being. But, I am honored to be counted among her friends. I know she would be the absolute ideal friend and companion to anyone.
She is even more special to me: we share the same birthday! What else is there for me to discover about this woman? It would be an understatement to say that I love her! Make no mistake, however: she is not a sexual object to me! I find it absolutely impossible to even think about her in sexual terms. She is a lot more than that. One must understand that these souls bring the absolute best in you. This should not be allowed to get spoiled by impure thoughts, behaviors or actions. CC, I love you! I just wanted to let you know.
Another being I have met who had caused a tremendous change in my life is Guruji. I cannot measure the influence he has on me in human terms. As an approximation, let’s say that everything good about me got one hundred times better. Enough said!
I wish everyone would meet a few human beings like these. Better yet, I wish everyone would be like one of these exalted souls. The world would be a better place. Yes, indeed!
